Settling in the UK

This page contains details of the different routes available to you if you wish to settle in the UK.  If you are looking for nationality and citizenship you need to select this link.

Settling in the UK will be determined on your current visa status.  We recommend before making a settlement visa application, you get your PAST immigration history verified so your application can be submitted correctly plus the settlement visa is very costly and fees are non-refundable if you submit your application incorrectly.

To help you understand the different routes we have provided tabs below covering the 8 routes that can be applied under. Once you know your route you can now start the preparation for your application.  Note: If your family members are applying with you, ensure they are permitted to apply at the same time as you.

What is Indefinite leave to Remain (ILtR)?

After you have lived legally in the UK for a certain length of time, you may be able to apply for permission to settle here. This is known as ILtR.

If you are applying to enter the UK as the partner or child of a British citizen or a person who is settled here, the Home Office may be able to give you immediate permission to settle here permanently.

If you are currently in the UK, your right to apply for settlement will depend on your current immigration category.

Most applicants for settlement must show that they have a knowledge of language and life in the UK.

Applying for your ILtR

Depending on your visa status will depend when you can apply.  Below are areas you might fall under:

The Future

Once your settlement visa has been approved, you will be exempt from that point on from immigration control.  This means you do not have to apply for any further immigration visas.

If you meet the guidelines on Nationality/Citizenship, you can apply for this normally after being on your ILtR for 12 months.  In some instances you can apply sooner.
